History, Secondary Education
The History Department at Appalachian State University offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees in History, Secondary Education.
The bachelor of science degree yields license to teach ALL Social Studies at the high school level, not just History. The degree is called “History” because it is housed in the History Department. However, the degree includes study in all fields of Social Studies, and graduates are licensed to teach all Social Studies subjects at the high school level.
The MA in History, Secondary Education degree raises an A-level (bachelor’s level) teaching license to the M-level (masters level). That M-level license in History qualifies North Carolina teachers to the 10 percent pay increase for masters degrees.
