Shannon Furr

Shannon Furr is a second year student in the General History M.A. program. Originally from Wilkesboro, North Carolina, she has called Boone home since her time here as a undergraduate. She received her bachelor's in History Secondary Education at Appalachian State University and hopes to eventually obtain a Ph.D. in History to become a professor at a university one day.

Not only is she passionate about history, but she is also passionate about educating people on the importance of historical events. Her undergraduate thesis, "'She Comes Armed With the Proper Documents': Myra Bradwell's Fight for Women's Rights in Bradwell v. Illinois," covered the United States Supreme Court case in which the first woman attempted to practice law in 1873. Shannon hopes to continue this topic into her graduate thesis and research more legal cases concerning the early Women's Rights Movement in the United States.
