Sam Thibault

Sam is originally from South Plainfield, New Jersey, but he has also spent several years in Raleigh, North Carolina. He received his Bachelor’s degree in History with a minor in Political Science at Appalachian State. He was first attracted to Appalachian State for its outdoor opportunities, as he is an avid trout fisherman. He has enjoyed and learned a lot during his time spent in Boone.

Sam’s thesis is about the effects of the Civil War on the veterans and their families throughout several communities in North Carolina. He is interested in the ways social and political divisions are sown and their long-term effects.  He is mainly interested in history because there is a general lack of understanding regarding the past. His plan is  to become an educator to spread knowledge and understanding of history. He would like to purse a Ph.D. in the future.
