Bradley Phillis

Brad Phillis is a historian of the European Middle Ages: specifically, he works on crusading, book culture, and the interplay between political and intellectual developments in the county of Flanders. His current book project, tentatively entitled Descended Equally from Royal Seed, analyzes the development of the crusading tradition of the counts of Flanders in the long twelfth century. Dr. Phillis completed his PhD at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville in Medieval History in 2018. Prior to earning his doctorate, he taught high school history and Latin in Winston-Salem, North Carolina for six years. In his role as a teacher trainer, Dr. Phillis's work focuses on student-centered instruction and content-area literacy.
