Rebekkah Watkins

Rebekkah is originally from a small town in Colorado; she later moved to Lincoln, Nebraska. There she received a B.A. in Journalism and Mass Communications with a second major in Classical Studies and a minor in History from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Coming to App State was quite the change for her as it is a smaller school and she had never lived in the south before.

Her master’s concentration is Museum Studies with an emphasis on museum education. In Fall 2018 she interned at the Blowing Rock Art and History Museum (BRAHM) as their Marketing and Communications intern. This was followed by her summer internship as the development and programs intern at the Newseum in Washington D.C. While at the Newseum, she got to attend journalism awards dinners, work with the development team on data research, assist with the membership office during their renewal season, and sit in on strategic planning meetings as decisions were made about the closing of the museum.

The best class Rebekkah has taken at App State was the Museum Education course she took with Dr. Andrea Burns, and her second favorite was Introduction to Historical Preservation taught by Dr. Kristen Baldwin Deathridge. Both courses gave her real world experience with the projects she completed. Her favorite area of study is Roman History (Augustus Caesar’s reign) and The Great Depression/Dust Bowl Era in the Midwest.

Rebekkah is involved in many things around campus including: 2019-2020 Graduate Ambassador, President of the Graduate History Student Association, President of the Graduate Student Government Association, and the Lead Graduate Assistant for the ACCESS/SSS scholarship programs in the Student Learning Center.
