EDTPA: Templates & Information
- IMPORTANT - Use this template for your edTPA submission (DOCX, 52 KB). It contains the one-page Lesson Plan overview + our Lesson Plan template, for up to 5 lessons and ends with the Unit Map.
- Remember: your edTPA submission cannot exceed 20 pages total
- Aim for 2-3 pages per ASU History Dept. Lesson Plan + one-page RCOE Lesson Plan overview
- That's total of 3-4 pages per lesson - you cannot exceed 4 pages per lesson (RCOE lesson overview + History Dept. lesson plan)
- We recommend keeping the Unit Map at the end for edTPA readers, but you can cut it out if you design 5 lesson plans and reach 19-20 pages)

- Before student teaching
- Make your first contact with your cooperating teacher/school by writing an introductory email.

Read our edTPA brochure (PDF, 5.5 MB). It provides a snapshot reminder of the 3 categories (planning, instruction, assessment) and 15 rubrics - 5 per each category - you will be assessed in order to successfully pass student teaching.
- Make your first contact with your cooperating teacher/school by writing an introductory email.
- First weeks of student teaching
- Upload your weekly schedule on AsULearn by Friday. Email your first schedule to Mrs. Bly (blyd@appstate.edu), then post to AsULearn. Schedules are always emailed/posted for next week.
- Submit (Post) your lesson plans on AsULearn
- Use the Center for History Education (CHE) Unit Map and Lesson Plan templates (links above)
- Contact your History Dept. and/or RCOE supervisor immediately if you are running into problems, or have questions.
- Begin designing & planning your edTPA complete unit project.
- Select your unit
- Design your lessons
- Follow instructions - provided through RCOE, your RCOE supervisor, and on AsULearn
- Professional Etiquette & Responsibilities
- Stay in touch with your cooperating teacher, RCOE supervisor, and Academic supervisor (History Dept.) at all times.
- Contact all 3 supervisors if you will be late, or out sick, no later than 6:00AM that day.
- Inform your CT of the mandatory meetings at App State in mid-October/mid-March.
Dress, behavior (on and off campus), and your digital identity: some recommendations
- Non-classroom responsibilities - these are equally important. Fulfill before- or after-school duties, attend sporting events, and be involved with your school as your schedule permits.
- Research - As a professional educator, it is important to continue researching History content and pedagogy. Look for model lesson plans, teaching history strategies, attend conferences (like NCCSS), sit in on professional development workshops, and continue reading scholarship from historians.
- Professional Organizations to consider joining include the North Carolina Council for Social Studies (NCCSS) and the National Council for Social Studies (NCSS).
- Stay in touch with your cooperating teacher, RCOE supervisor, and Academic supervisor (History Dept.) at all times.
