The History Education Program (HEP) at Appalachian State assists students seeking a Bachelor of Science degree in History/Social Studies Education. The degree is housed in the Department of History (College of Arts and Sciences) and includes a rigorous and diverse selection of courses in history, the social sciences, and education. Students work closely with the HEP advisor to complete the program of study, which also includes several internship opportunities with public schools. HEP-affiliated faculty teach courses specific to history/social studies education that help prepare our majors for their careers.
Upon completing all requirements, students will also earn a North Carolina license to teach 9-12 Social Studies. Graduates of the program are employed all over the country, and some have international teaching jobs. Their teaching licenses are easily transferred to other states through North Carolina's reciprocal agreements.
